United Way of Kenosha County (UWKC) will host its 4th Annual “Readers are Leaders” Day of Action event on Friday, March 2, 2012, between 9:00 am – 11:00 am. As part of the “Read Across America” national event celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday, UWKC is recruiting community leaders to LIVE UNITED by volunteering to read to students at participating Kenosha elementary schools. Participants can choose to read from their own collection or to choose from an assortment of books selected by the school’s librarian.

The event will kick off at 9:00 am (location TBD). Registration begins at 8:30 am. After a short 15 minute program, volunteers will depart to their various assigned school and classroom. Volunteers will begin reading to the first class between 9:30 am and 9:45 am. Volunteers will spend approximately 30 minutes in a classroom or as assigned by school principal. Depending upon volunteer availability, an individual will read to 1 class or up to 3 classes. All readers should report to the school’s main office first and to sign in. School staff will be available to take volunteers to reading area.
